Sure there was Windows before version 3.0.
It was Windows 2.1, which was delivered with my dad's brand spanking
new 386 in '88 or '89, that prompted me to venture into systems
programming. I was so thoroughly disappointed with its multitasking
capabilities, that I spent a lot of time writing my own micro-kernel
based O/S, where I could run the three apps I developed (compiler,
assembler, text editor) simultaneously. It never went anywhere beyond
my house, of course, but I learned a lot from it.
Cheers,
Camiel.
