Hmmm. I caught you (Mr. Gilbert) posting Star Trek stuff in this very
thread. I guess you don't use VMS! (Message 51 in Google Groups.)

VAXMAN! I'm honored to get direct mention by you, but I can't say I'm
terribly fond about what you wrote about me.

Hmmm. My first post in this thread was a comment about someone saying
that not printing VMS docs is "better for the planet." I co-opted what
I believe was a George Carlin comment in a similar, actually very
similar, vein. I plead guilty. Let me point out that this was a
response to an already existing post. I wasn't the first to mention
the phrase. I was simply commenting on the merits of "saving the
planet" and what it really meant.

My second post was about both tree-hugging and electronic vs. paper
docs, including the readability thereof. OK, I added a comment about
the new unreadability of the new default font in Word (2007 edition, I
believe). Guilty! And I believe I'm not the only member of this group
guilty of MS-bashing!

Things continued to digress and in post 59, as counted by Google
Groups, I said we need more jobs, meaning that stopping producing
paper docs kills jobs and I then added a slight joke after that.
Guilty! And then everyone started posting about this left and right.
Even those who have complained in the past about off-topic posts!

There was the Star Trek digression. I had nothing to do with that!

I really don't see how this is evil. I was just going with the flow.
All of what I wrote was in response to others' posts.

And things digressed as they often do. I had no intent to start a
discussion about "saving" the economy and such, but things drifted
that way. I believe you jumped on the bandwagon yourself with your
gripes about NJ and "government incompetence," no?

I still have some VAX systems, but they don't get used much at all.
But if you look at my history of posts I think you'll be hard pressed
to conclude I never had any! One of my favorite VMS posts that I wrote
is the one in which I explained how the OP got a 1.25 GB indexf.sys
file on a 36GB drive. It was *I* who explained it. See the thread

My posting record speaks for itself.

Hmmmm. I often trim posts and can't recall any top-posting I've ever
done. Please supply some examples. I will humbly apologize to the
group if you find some.

I did recently stumble upon your "AEF, where are you?" post more or
less suggesting we meet. But given this current post of yours, I think
I'll pass!

I'm sorry you're not so fond of NJ. There must be a way you can move
to a better state. A half-serious idea: Switch to another house with
the same price problem! That is, you'll have the same price problem,
just with a different house, but in a state you'll like better! (~_^)

Anyway, time to co-opt a trick of Carl's (I think it was he) and post
something strictly VMS-related:

One of these days I'm going to publish the latest version of my
TO.COM. All of its users (both of them) will be quite happy! Wildcard
performance has been doubled and a bug fixed. I was eventually going
to post it on my MobileMe website, but now Apple is taking it away,
along with Gallery! Yeah, nice folks over there at Apple. I wasted my
time editing several hundred photos and posting some movies. I may
post TO.COM there soon anyway. Yeah, it'll be gone in June or July,
but perhaps by then I'll have time to start a more permanent website,
and publish lots of other stuff, only some of it VMS-related.

Nice chatting with you, VAXMAN. And what could be a better nickname?
(I am NOT being facetious or mocking -- I'd be delighted to have a
nickname even 1/10 as cool.) OK.

Oh, and VAX/VMS, or even just VAX, is such a cool name for anything. I
can't think of a better one.

AEF

(Oh, is the AEF above top-posting? See below.)

AEF That's better. (^_^)
