Here is where I get confused.  Where did all these updates come from?  Who payed 
to have them implemented?

It just doesn't seem to me that it can work, Many flavors of Unix being free, 
while having development work performed.  Can anyone show me these people who 
work for free?  My lawn needs to be mowed, again ...
