Ana/rms reveals no errors in the fragment of binary file created and, yes, the file is fixed 512.
Given the choice of how to get from A to B probably no one would start from here (including using OpenVMS or HP) however neither SFTP nor secure HTTP are options for the current project.
FTP/SSL is new with 5.7 and so perhaps problems are not entirely unexpected these days.
Perhaps extending a very widely implemented standard (FTP) however creaky to add security (FTPS (FTP/SSL)) may be seen by many folk as preferable to introducing a whole new standard (SFTP).
