Show your command log from the transfer, Philip?
Based on another reply, the transfer may well have completed and the
timeout error occured on the prompt AFTER the transfer command; when
the ftp daemon dropped the idle connection.
A CHECKSUM of the file, or an MD5 or SHA1 of the file, both before and
after the transfer will tell you if the file transfered successfully.
