Wrt Google Groups being slow: the behaviour I'm seeing, still using
the old Google Groups not the new unimproved one, is that if I don't
get a response quickly, there probably won't be a response in a
sensible timeframe, but if I repeat the same request (having waited a
second or two) it'll usually respond within a sensible timeframe. I
wasn't sure whether this was possibly packet loss at my ISP (but I
don't see any similar problem anywhere else) or bad load balancing at
Google Groups. I now vote for bad load balancing.
