Can't speak for others, but nedit is just as "good" as emacs
but it has a much lower footprint, for both, compiling
and usage.

I didn't knock on them.
Just suggested that one shouldn't try to throw modern bloat
at them. Otoh, back then they were used for all kinds
of graphics related stuff, so it's possible.
"nedit" is an example for a fully functional GUI
oriented software which doesn't need lots of resources.

I'm quite sure you would want some as soon as you
start to seriously use a VS3100.
