The UFS approach is not a defragmentation as such. UFS allocates files
(or moves them when extended) in away to try to keep out of fragmentation
in the first place. If that is better or not depends on the actual disk
usage, I guess. Saving a large media file and having it relocate
several times *might* give worse performance than simply allocate
a new fragment and keep on writing.

And besides, the common PC user just couldn't care less. :-)

Yes, it is a good tradition and fits the market they are targeting.

My laptops comes with a suitable OS installed. I reply to a few
questions (timezone, keybord layout and so on), and that's it.

And no, I do not expect to be asked about things that are
handled automaticly anyway. :-)
