I think that would be very hard due to fundamental differences in
architecture.

Of course if the client apps used strictly SQL 92 through a
ODBC, JDBC or similar driver then it would be easy to migrate. But if
that had been the case then there is a good chance that they would have
migrated away 10 or 20 years ago.
