Why not tell the kids to learn and use cylinder-head-sector addressing,
Brian? Or is something as advanced as CHS passé now?
Do I like (some) aspects of RMS and the XQP? Sure. Not losing data is
really nice. But programming the RMS API? Not so much.
RMS is lots of work for not much result. One example being... getting
the size of the user data written to the file; the application record
or application file size.
And I use the RMS API far too often, have wrappers for it, and am all
too familiar with using the API, that absolutely wonderful example of
the pinnacle of 1970s-era RSX-inspired API design.
TL;DR: Far too often, the RMS API makes SQL into the preferable choice.
Both for an easier API, and for the capabilities of various SQL
databases.
