One of the reasons that clubs have been folding (at least in Northern
New Jersey) has been the lack of people interested in becoming club
leaders. Up until the mid or late 1990's there had been a number of
Mini-Legacies held throughout the US with names like LUST (Let Us
Speak Together), LETS, DIET, and a few others. These were usually one
to two day seminars that concentrated on club leadership, recruiting,
etc. The last one in NJ was held in 1996 (The Gathering). In the ten
years since the last one was held, the number of clubs in the
Northern New Jersey Square Dancers Association (NNJSDA) has shrunk
from about 45 clubs to about 25.

The NNJSDA has decided to revive The Gathering to try to stem this
tide. The Gathering is being held on Saturday, May 12th at the
Douglass College Student Center, 100 George Street, New Brunswick,
NJ. The seminars are being held from 12:00 Noon to 5:30 PM and there
will be a dance in the evening from 7:30 PM to 9:45 PM. The dance
will be alternating Mainstream/Plus/Rounds with Tom Miller calling
and Roy Gotta cueing. The cost is $8/person for the entire day. The
dance can be attended without coming to the seminars, but the price
is the same.

We already have people coming from Rochester, NY, Deleware, New
Hampshire, Vermont, and other states.
