[Squaredancing] Club 25th Anniversary

Hi,

Our square dance club is celebrating it's 25th anniversary in April and
I was wondering if you'all had any unique ideas for fun and games.

It's rather formal with a sit down meal at a banquet hall and our club
caller and cuer and spouses are paid performers and also attending the $25 a
plate gala gratis.

The affair has a $1000 budget including centerpieces and professional
photogs.

We will be inviting the Governor of RI, who with his wife was an avid square
dancer many moons ago.

Should we invite Jimmy Carter(lol).

     Any ideas would be appreciated.

Bob Keith

depends on the age range of your dancers ...

but ... anything Italian ...

oldie but goodie "Come On-A My House" as sung by
Rosemary Clooney ... have heard a couple of callers use this
(don't know what record producer put this out, didn't see
it on Debbie Ceder's website)

Dean Martin and Perry Como did a lot of Italian-style stuff,
obviously ! one that comes to mind is Arrivederci Roma ..

oh yeah, do play "Roll Out the Barrel" ... because most people
drink beer with pizza ... obviously you can't have beer at the
PARTY, but "sparkling cider" .. especially if served in beer mugs,
would be fun ... ginger ale would work too

most any polka type music can work for "pizza music"

if you think they'd go for it, for one tip, "rename" the dancers;
Ladies become Tomatoes, Gentlemen become (maybe) Sausage,
or Cheese ... (are you old enough to remember when an attractive
woman was referred to as "one hot tomato" ? )

"weave the pizza" instead of "weave the ring" ?

"Grand Pizza Square" ????

how about a "toss the pizza" ... otherwise known as Scatter Promenade;
everyone has to get into a different square

(or an "explode the pizza" ... everyone has to scatter individually)

or ... make up index cards (or something smaller) with names of
pizza toppings ... eight of each, then hand them out randomly to dancers
and they have to find "their square" ...

a follow-on .. they keep the cards and reform squares so
there are four, or eight, different "ingredients" in each square
(depends on how many squares you get at the dance)

since the caller "delivers" the message ... makes sense
to dress as a delivery-person; also logical to be the pizza MAKER,
in which case your apron, etc ... could be either clean or dirty,
might be funny to change from clean TO dirty as dance progresses,
and make jokes about dancers throwing tomatoes or sauce at you ...

(in which case the Scatter Promenade I mentioned above,
could be renamed Food Fight ... grin !)

"Toss the Tomatoes Across" instead of Ladies Chain ?

just some stuff off the top of my head

sounds like great fun, will have to remember some of these
ideas when we do a ONS for teens ...
