[Squaredancing] After Parties

Hi.  
 
I'm new to Square Dancing.  What are After Parties?  And what is  their 
purpose?  They sound like they could be a lot of fun.  Do they  have to comprise of 
skits?  Or can it be a variety of entertainment?   Or just socializing with 
food?  Is it a "Get-to-know-you-better"  night?
